The Camera Lens

So, the Morris Photo Project, what is it all about ? - why is an amateur documentary style photographer onboard with this ? - well for me, it’s all about tradition and keeping it alive ! - we need to document our traditions and the medium of photography is as fine as any.

This website, in its present form, is intended as a suitable online repository to store my photographic efforts (that maybe make the grade) for people within the morris dancing community to view and maybe comment upon.

To start with the end, the target by mid 2026 is to have captured sufficient number of interesting (by my own measure) photographic images of Cotswold Morris tradition so that a rather handsome hardback book can be published.

In May 2024 I began the journey, it’s been a glorious learning curve to date, I have attended a good number of morris dancing events across the UK from Bedford to Buxton and locations both East & West in-between - I’ve observed much and educated myself on the finer points, I need to capture & portray this wonderful tradition in the only way I know how - I've learned where (and where not) to stand to get the images I'm after, I’ve learned that decent sunny weather gets me the better looking impactful images (IMO of course) although that proved tricky in 2024 with a distinct lack of many sunny days.

So whilst 2024 has been much about a practice run, albeit I’ve captured a few nice images I’m happy to display, it follows that 2025 needs to be a year I really gather the harvest.
